Who’s in charge?
Sewanee is a small, unique town
The mayor and the University president, known as the Vice-Chancellor, are one-and-the-same. We do have a city council of elected officials who meet with a select group of the University's senior staff on a routine basis. While that's interesting, the majority of students' lives are governed by policies and people in the dean of students and the dean of the college offices.
Meet the deans of the University and find links to the policies that govern our community. Student government and the Order of Gownsmen also play key roles in representative governance. To learn more about Sewanee's student government, visit Student Government.
Much of the day-to-day operations are governed by students and the dean of students offices and when it comes to residence halls (dorms), the residence life program aims to keeps order and respond to any facility issues.
