1 Billion Rising on Valentines Day

Get up and dance!
Because it matters.

World-wide movement 1 Billion Rising (onebillionrising.org) is asking people to dance this Thursday, to say that it is not alright that 1 billion of the world's 3 billion women will be raped or beaten in their lifetime, to say that this has to stop. Through the efforts of the Women's Center, Perpetual Motion, and the Dean of Students' office, Sewanee will be among those rising up and taking a stand, along with everyone from Anne Hathaway to the Afghan Women's Education Centre.

So would you please join us?

Drop by Convocation Hall on Valentine's Day, 7-9pm, for music, refreshments from Blue Chair, an open dance floor, swing lessons, salsa lessons, a photo booth, and a chance for you to voice your thoughts on sexual violence. And don't miss the special preview performance of one of Perpetual Motion's dances!

Dance to show you won't tolerate rape and abuse - dance to show how physical relations between people should work. And be one in a billion!
